Based on Neucin Design’s experience in the design, development and commercial industrialisation of capsule based dry powder inhalers an internal project was undertaken to explore how common device complexities and associated high manufacturing and assembly costs could be dramatically reduced whilst improving patient adherence.
As a result, Neucin Design’s Low Cost Capsule DPI (LC-CDPI) was created. The designs focus for reducing complexity and cost resulted in a device consisting of only 5 components without compromising device function and drug delivery performance whilst enhancing the user experience.
The designs focus on improving patient adherence means the same base device design could be developed for the creation of a connected version with integrated electronics and software which could be used to assist with patient training, improve patience adherence and provide real time patient inspiration profiles.
